Umpire Policy & Procedures

·         Pay is weekly: Monday – Sunday. Checks will be available for pickup in the pro-shop after 5:00pm on Tuesday’s.

·         Food & Drink Policy: Fountain Soft drinks & tap water are free! Food, candy, PowerAde, & bottled water are 50% off and must be paid for at the time you get the product. All alcohol must be paid for in full per state liquor laws. Also if you consume alcohol after your shift is over, you must be out of uniform to be served!

·         Umpires are NOT PERMITTED in the concession area, behind the bar, in the stock room or beyond the counter in the pro-shop.

·         Personal items may be placed behind the counter in the pro-shop, give those items to the manager on duty for storage. Also make sure the manager gets those items for you when you are ready to leave.

·         Kolping Park will not tolerate, under any circumstances, one umpire publicly bad mouthing another umpire. Any umpire caught violating this rule will be subject to a suspension & possible termination from umpiring games at Kolping Park & any USSSA games at any park!

·         Umpires will be scheduled to work at a particular time, field assignments are always subject to change. Umpires are required to accept any change in field assignments due to no shows, forfeits, inclement weather or any other reason Kolping Management needs them to change.

·         No Parking inside of the park area, you must park in the parking lot, no exceptions!

·         NO CELL PHONES PERMITTED ON THE FIELD AT ANY TIME, keep them in your car or in the pro-shop!

·         By umpiring at Kolping Park and you decide to enter a team into league or tournament play; if you fail to pay your fees, you agree to have your paycheck garnished until fees are paid, NO EXCEPTIONS!

LEAUGUE PLAY

v  Check in at the pro-shop a minimum of 10 minutes prior to your first scheduled game.

o    Check schedule for your field assignment.

v  Take used balls assigned for that field plus 1 new game ball (2 if it’s Mixed couples, 1 men’s & 1 women’s)

o    Note: Umpires which are splitting a field assignment should follow the procedures above except second umpire should report to his/her assigned field after checking in with the pro-shop.

o    Umpires must not leave the park until the park manager can confirm that the next umpire scheduled for their field has arrived.

v  After completion of assignment, bring in the scoreboard console & turn in completed line up cards to the Pro-shop, noting the winning & losing teams, place the winning team’s card on top, score, umpires name, and any player ejections. You will be paid and league standings kept from the line up cards. If you do not turn your card in &/or we can’t read who the umpire is, YOU WILL NOT GET PAID!

TOURNAMENT PLAY

v  Check in at the pro-shop a minimum of 10 minutes prior to your first scheduled game.

o    Check schedule for your field assignment.

o    Check the type of tournament

o    Check with manager on any special rules

o    Balls will be provided by the teams! It is your responsibility to ensure the ball being used is a legal USSSA Classic M ball and it is an approved ball for play at Kolping Park!

o    Turn in Line up cards in the pro-shop after each game, placing the winning team on top, note the score and sign the card, if I can’t read the card you will not get paid. Brackets will be updated by the park manager.

o    Umpires must not leave the park until the park manager can confirm that the next umpire scheduled for their field has arrived.

o    Umpires are required to bring in the scoreboard console after the last game of the day/night on that field.

Umpire Uniform Policy

 

v  Shirts: Must be an approved & licensed USSSA shirt, red in color!

v  Shorts: Must be black in color & have the USSSA Logo on them!

v  Pants: Must be black slacks, NO WARM UP / JOGGING / ATHLETIC type pants, NO denim!

v  Hats: A Black/Red USSSA embroidered hat is your only option!
Skull Caps: For cold weather, MUST BE Black and have the USSSA Logo embroidered on them!

v  Jackets: Must be red in color and be an approved and licensed jacket from USSSA!

v  Under shirts: May be red, white, or black. If it is a long sleeved shirt, then the sleeves must be red.

v  Indicator: It is required that you use an indicator!

v  Brush: It is required to use a brush, DO NOT USE YOUR FEET to clean off home plate, LOOK PROFESSIONAL!

v  Ball Bag: It is required to now use a ball bag! Keep a ball or 2 in the bag; it will make your game run much smoother. You may keep additional back ups in the rack on the back stop!

v  Shoes: MUST BE SOLID BLACK, if there is a logo that is white or another color, use shoe polish to cover the logo.

v  Socks: Plain white or USSSA approved socks only!

 

THESE RULES ARE NOT NEGOTIABLE! THEY MUST BE FOLLOWED OR IT WILL RESULT IN FINES & POSSIBLE TERMINATION! WE WILL BE A PROFESSIONAL GROUP OF UMPIRES IN 2010!
